Most people never see them because they don&#8217;t know where to look.<\/p><p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal leading-[1.7]\">I&#8217;m going to tell you exactly where to look.<\/p><p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal leading-[1.7]\"><strong>The spot:<\/strong> No-eul Sunset Coastal Road (\ub178\uc744\ud574\uc548\ub3c4\ub85c) in southwest Jeju<\/p><p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal leading-[1.7]\"><strong>What happens:<\/strong> Wild dolphins swim close to shore\u2014sometimes just 10-20 meters out. You can watch them from the road. For free. No boat required (and sometimes, these boats hurt the dolphins with their propellers).<\/p><p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal leading-[1.7]\"><strong>My experience:<\/strong> Michele and I were driving the coastal road, saw cars pulled over, and thought &#8220;What are they looking at?&#8221; Got out, walked to the edge, and boom\u2014a pod of dolphins just 10 meters away, surfacing, diving.<\/p><p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal leading-[1.7]\">It was completely unexpected and absolutely magical.<\/p><p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal leading-[1.7]\">I&#8217;ve been back a few times since. One time, it was with Soraya and her husband Jaden.<\/p><h3 class=\"text-text-100 mt-2 -mb-1 text-base font-bold\">Other Coastal Highlights<\/h3><p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal leading-[1.7]\">While we&#8217;re talking coast, here are other highlights:<\/p><p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal leading-[1.7]\"><strong>West Coast Sunset (Northwest):<\/strong> Hyeopjae Beach area plus Biyangdo Island view. Watch the sun set behind the small island. Beautiful.<\/p><p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal leading-[1.7]\"><strong>East Coast Sunrise:<\/strong> Gwangchigi Beach near Seongsan. The sun rises behind Seongsan Ilchulbong\u2014photographers&#8217; dream shot. Time it with low tide for exposed tide pools and rock formations.<\/p><p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal leading-[1.7]\"><strong>Windmills:<\/strong> Sinchang Windmill Coastal Road (northwest). Walk right up to the base of massive wind turbines. That&#8217;s what makes it special\u2014they&#8217;re wild animals, not a marine park show. But here&#8217;s how to improve your odds.<\/p><p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal leading-[1.7]\">Dolphins are most commonly spotted on the west coast (especially the Sunset Coastal Road area). You&#8217;ll see them surface to breathe, dive, maybe swim in pods. Sometimes you&#8217;ll wait and see nothing. Sometimes you&#8217;ll get lucky and watch them for 30 minutes. Bring patience and lower your expectations for perfect photo opportunities (though Jaden&#8217;s still trying for that sunset plus jumping dolphin shot).<\/p><p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal leading-[1.7]\">Even if you don&#8217;t see dolphins, the Sunset Coastal Road sunset is the best I&#8217;ve seen on Jeju, so the trip is worth making regardless.<\/p><p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal leading-[1.7]\">BTW: Even if you don&#8217;t see dolphins, the Sunset Coastal Road is worth the trip. Good swimming (summer), beautiful any season. Bus accessible (Bus 202 from Jeju City).<\/p><p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal leading-[1.7]\"><strong>Handam Coastal Walk<\/strong> (southwest): Stone walls, traditional architecture, coastal path. Less touristy than trendy Aewol.<\/p><p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal leading-[1.7]\"><strong>Dried squid plus beer:<\/strong> Buy both at a convenience store, find a spot by the ocean, enjoy the quintessential Korean coastal experience. Works anywhere on the coast.<\/p><h3 class=\"text-text-100 mt-2 -mb-1 text-base font-bold\">Practical Coastal Realities<\/h3><p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal leading-[1.7]\"><strong>Wind:<\/strong> Jeju is called &#8220;Island of Wind&#8221; for a reason. West coast especially. Sometimes too windy for pleasant beach sitting. Check forecast.<\/p><p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal leading-[1.7]\"><strong>Weather changes fast:<\/strong> Sunny on the east coast doesn&#8217;t mean sunny on the west coast. Jeju has microclimates.
